Alumni Mentor Program
USF Law's Alumni Mentor Program connects students with alumni across practice areas, industries, and experience levels, providing guidance as they navigate law school and build their careers.
Mentors serve as a professional resource, answering questions, sharing insight on practice norms, and offering support at whatever stage a student is in their journey. The law school matches mentors and mentees based on goals and preferences each mentee identifies in their program profile.
The USF Law community is known for its supportive and inclusive spirit — one where alumni reach back to uplift the next generation as they embark on their legal careers. We hope you'll consider being part of that tradition.
Time Commitment
This is a seven-month program. We ask that mentors and mentees meet at least twice — once in the fall and once in the spring — though pairs may arrange additional meetings if schedules allow. Meetings may take place in person, by phone, or via Zoom. We also ask that mentors remain available between meetings for calls, emails, or texts to answer questions and offer support.

- Sept. 24–28 | Match notifications sent to mentors and mentees
- October # - Alumni Mentor Program Mixer Event
- October–December | Mentors and mentees meet at least once
- January–April | Mentors and mentees meet at least once
- April 30 | Program concludes
Match Process
We aim to match every student with a mentor, though we cannot guarantee that every registered mentor will be assigned a mentee. Mentors and mentees are each responsible for meeting the program requirements. If either party does not fulfill those requirements, participants may opt out of the match, and we will do our best to re-match interested participants in January.
What is required of me as a mentor?
- Mentors must be USF Law JD graduates who have passed and are in good standing with the bar, and have at least two years of post-bar legal experience.
- Commit to at least two substantive meetings per academic year — one in the fall, one in the spring — with each assigned mentee, with flexibility to meet more often if schedules allow.
- Please consider your bandwidth before registering. We ask that you only take on as many mentees as you have genuine capacity to support.
- Remain available between meetings for calls, emails, or texts.
- Model professional norms and offer constructive feedback on practice and conduct.
- Serve as a resource for networking and questions.
What is required of me as a mentee?
- Be a USF Law 2L or 3L JD student.
- Make the initial outreach to your assigned mentor once matched.
- Take initiative: reach out promptly, come prepared, and demonstrate genuine interest and appreciation.Demonstrate professionalism by arriving on time, remaining open to feedback, and following through on commitments.
